About Us
1st Byron Bay Scout Group is one of the oldest community-based organisations in the region. The group was initially set up in 1910, just two years after the movement was launched internationally. The current hall in Tennyson St was constructed with a budget of 250 pounds in 1938.
The group caters for boys and girls aged 8 – 18 years and provides young Aussies with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure.
As part of a worldwide organisation, Scouts Australia NSW engages and inspires young Australians to develop confidence, resilience and leadership. We are the best at delivering fun diverse programs that develop skills for life! Find out more here.
We are a volunteer run Scout Group and all volunteers are welcome to get in touch and help out in any way they can.

OUR SECTIONS
CUBS
Cub Scouts is for boys and girls aged 8 to 10 years, and focuses on exploring the outdoors, discovery and learning interesting things! Cub Scouts belong to a Pack and begin to learn leadership and teamwork in small teams called Sixes.
If you enjoy fun, games and learning new skills then you’ll love being a Cub Scout! You’ll get to go on camps with your Pack, and you might attend a Cuboree camp with hundreds of other Cub Scouts! As well as learning things like how to use a compass, you’ll go on bushwalks, bike trips, and have the chance to do things like sailing, canoeing and even abseiling!
SCOUTS
The Scout section is for boys and girls aged 11 to 14 years and offers an amazing array of activities designed to teach important life skills, leadership and get Scouts social and active!
Scouts, as a section, focuses on allowing young people to develop their confidence and teaches them how to work as part of a team. Scouts learn essential outdoor safety skills as well as participate in a variety of physical and intellectual challenges. The programs are designed to target each young person’s own special interests, encouraging them to enjoy their favourite hobbies using meaningful badges and awards.
VENTURERS
Venturer Scouts is a do-it-yourself mix of fun, adventure and personal challenge that brings together like-minded young people (male and female) aged 14 to 18.
As a Venturer Scout, you may find yourself exploring wilderness Australia, camping above the snowline or diving on coral reefs. Whatever your challenge, there will be trained and highly experienced adults to guide you through the experience, to teach you the necessary skills and safety techniques.
Venturer Scouts get the opportunity to travel overseas and to organised activities, to live with a different community and to provide service to others.
You don’t need to have any previous Scouting experience. We’ll help you catch up.

Donate
1st Byron Bay Scout Group is a completely volunteer run group. All of the people who help out on a weekly basis do it because they are passionate about helping their children be part of something special.
Although we do receive group fees from our members, this only covers our running costs for the hall and some local small activities. If we need something big - we need to fundraise for it. Donating to the Scout Group will help towards this and we will never be used for outgoing costs.
All donations will go towards the local aussie kids and their scouting journey of fun and adventure.
Scout Groups fundraise for themselves and others – it’s integral to the ethos of Scouting.
This might mean fundraising for a charitable cause or hall maintenance and upgrades, or for subsidising membership fees and event attendance or new quality camping gear – opportunities are endless. We run various fundraisers during the year which includes the following:
-
RSL Byron Bay Raffle
-
Byron Bay Ocean Swim (Winter Whales)
-
Bunnings BBQ
-
Cake Stalls, sponsored walks plus more
